I’ve gotten to know Sonja O. over the last couple of weeks — we clicked immediately. I could tell she loves her daughter like I love my son: A deep, rooted love that brings fierce protection. Mama Bears, some people call it.
It’s this Mama Bear love that makes Sonja fight for the programs that help her daughter. She wants the world to know how much value Head Start brings her small, working-class family. She’s earnest, direct, and serious when saying, “We must protect Head Start at all costs.”
